Eye Floaters

Flashing Lights and Floaters

Sometimes, floaters can be associated with flashing lights or 'auras'. This can be caused by a variety of events, including:
  • Vitreous humour pulling at the retina
  • A blow to the eye
  • Migraine, either with or without associated pain.
  • High blood pressure

If you suddenly start seeing sparkling lights in association with an increased number of floaters, it is strongly advised that you see your eyecare practitioner immediately for further investigation, as there is a risk that the retina could be damaged.
