I actually have a funny and short story about floaters. It all happend when I was 11 years old and at the beach. Suddenly I looked at the clear, blue sky and saw something moving! At first i thought it was something in the sky, but then I figured out it was actually in my eyes! I was trying to figure out what they were, and I came to a stupid conclusion it were brain cells. I asked my parents, but they had no idea what they were, but they said it was nothing to worry about. And here I am, 5 years later finally solving the mystery that haunted me before sleep all this time :)

Okay so, I see a black dot, and it goes down, and I don't see it anymore. I thought it was my eyesight (because I have bad eye sight problems), and even with my glasses on I see it. It only see it like 6-12 times a day. It kinda bothers me.

6 years ago I developed flashes in my left eye and floaters in both eyes (all kinds: lines, squiggles, knots, light, dark, etc). I was extremely depressed for the good part of a year, but one day I finally stopped noticing them. I didn't really think about them for a few years (though I could see them whenever I checked, which was very seldom), until a couple weeks ago, when I noticed new flashes in my right eye and a big, clumpy mass full of dark knots. Right now they are very irritating and I'm always aware of them, but I do have piece of mind knowing that this discomfort won't last forever and, hopefully, not as long as before. I'm confident that I will no longer be bothered by them in several months. Fingers crossed. Whatever you do, do not let this stop you from doing anything. Just go out there and do whatever you need to do, even if you have to fake your mood sometimes. The day I stopped feeling sorry for myself and did whatever I wanted, despite my condition, things slowly improved. It's a very long process, so you have to be extremely patient. Afterwards, you'll be a stronger person for it.

Reading all the comments about Floaters....
I cannot believe there is nothing out there to fix this problem. !! I have seen 3 specialists one tells me to live with them, the other tells me that I can have surgery to get rid of them. (95% chance of getting rid of them but, will develope catarats within a year or so. So that means another surgery for my eyes). The other specialist said DO NOT HAVE SURGERY !!~ I have tried acupuncture, natural path doctor, I have contacted the laser clinic, I have tried every eye drops out there natural and over the counter but... I cannot find the solution. This problem has caused me severe depression NOW I have to deal with another problem. If there is a doctor out there, please help us out.....!!! P.S. THERE IS LASER FOR THIS PROBLEM IN THE STATES but, this is not recommended because you will end up with more floaters. Is there anything in Toronto Canada

I'm 32 and I work in the IT industry, so I stare at computers a lot... I just started seeing floaters last week, and got incredibly scared. Your forums have helped me tremendously, by reading about other people who managed to tune them out eventually. Thank you.

I also found this story. "My floaters swirl and dance and move over my visual field, particularly when I look at walls painted with light colors, cloudy days, department store lighting, etc. They were very depressing and distracting for months. I even considered looking into surgery to have them removed.
Here is the good news... I still have all my floaters, but they no longer bother me. Without even trying, my brain learned to look past the little critters. There was a time when I did not want to play tennis or even play catch with my son. I now play tennis regularly at a high level (for a 53 year old!) and I'm coaching high school baseball this spring.
So, in my case at least, it DOES get better. MUCH better!
I certainly hope this helps...

I worried myself sick only reading negative comments about floaters on the web so I went on a forum and asked for positive experiences - the above are just a couple of the responses I got. They just gave me more hope than anything else I'd read.

"I can offer you reassurance. I've had floaters for years. Just checked now by looking at the wall and when my eyes stop moving a veil of black squiggles swirls around. There is no part of my vision that is floater free. I can can really empathise with how anxious it makes you, it impacts horribly on you until you are used to them and have accepted it. Truly the few minutes since looking at your thread is the most thought i've given them in years. I don't see them at all, your brain tunes them out, And mine are really bad."
"Another person here who's had them for years - loads of the things! I can honestly say they don't bother me at all now -It's as if my brain really has got used to them. At the time I really couldn't see how this could ever happen, but it has. "
