Viagra and Vision Loss
According to a new study published in the Journal of Neuro-ophthamology, Viagra may cause permanent vision loss in men.It has been known for years that Viagra users may experience temporary changes in color perception, causing an artifical blue or green tinting of one's vision. A new condition, however, called nonarteritic ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) is a much more serious threat to Viagra users, as it may cause permanent vision loss.
Being effectively a stroke in the eye, NAION occurs when circulation and blood flow is cut off to the optic nerve (the nerve that handles vision), which causes crowding of the nerve fibres and injures the nerve and results in permanent vision loss.
Since its approval by the FDA in March of 1998, Viagra (sildenafil citrate) has been used by millions of men worldwide to treat impotence and erectile dysfunction.
Another result of blood being blocked from reaching the eye, flashers; or eye pain, can be seldom seen.
